Kirby’s crew of experienced diggers begins by cleaning all around the digsite prior to excavation.
The dig team begins carefully digging around and among the dinosaur bones, carefully removing the enclosing rock to expose more of the stegosaurus skeleton.
Bob Simon poses next to the tail section of the stegosaurus. All four spikes were found as well as most of the very distal caudal vertebrae.
Kirby Siber sits next to the tail spikes, explaining their orientation in living position when properly positioned on the stegosaurus.
Kirby’s daughter, Maya, and the rest of the crew carefully pick at the enclosing rock to expose more bones of the stegosaurus.
Maya is seen here exposing an ulna, a lower arm bone of the Stegosaurus.
Time to stop and relax after hours of tedious digging. Soon, more heavy sandstone blocks will need to be removed to expose the remainder of the skeleton.
Kirby is working near the tail section. About 80% of the skeleton is exposed thus far.
Having just arrived at the digsite, Kirby’s crew begins the task of cleaning around the exposed bones and setting up new digging areas.
