This is one of many of the back plates that were articulated. These were very thin and fragile, and were only exposed enough to know the dimensions prior to removal.
This is the very end of the Stegosaurus tail. All four spikes were present. The fourth is underneath the spike in the upper portion of the photo. The very distal caudal or tail vertebrae were scattered around the spikes.
